how does adsense and blogging work to make money? is it just a way for other people to make money off your work and you just get a little out of it?

The ad publishers pay Google for their ads to be placed all over the net & some will end up on your blog – those that are relevant to your blog’s content.
So, if your site visitors click on the adsense ads on your blog (its likely they will as the ads are related to the content of your blog which it is assumed they are interested in) you will earn a certain amount of adsense revenue.

Adsense takes some commission from each of your click. They are not sitting there for free service. If you want to earn total of your clicks then you should directly contact that party and display their ads on your website without any 3rd party like adsense.This is just like referrals.
