O.k. well first you need to figure out how u are going to topic this article. Is it going to be like a run-down of the sport in general, or are you going to pick a game and give a play-by-play speech about it. If the first one, go to a simple website that lists all the rules. There are alot so you should be able to find enough to write 500 words(Its not as much as it sounds). You could even go more in depth about it and explain some instances or give your thoughts about if they should be changed. If you are going to do the second one, try to look up or remember a close game, and simply type what’s happening. If you do that you might have to even shorten it because the words will add up faster than you think. If your teacher rewards creativity, make up your own game with fake teams and a fun ending. You could even put in some quotes from your pretend all-star.

-Talk about what happened in all the quarters:

    - Which them was leading in the first half, and the second.
    - Who you thought scored the most points on each time.
    - Compare each team’s defense/offense, point guard, etc.
    - How well you thought each team played

Soo much to talk about in a basketball game. You can even talk about refreshments.

My nephew is on a basketball team and I don’t understand half of what goes on but I’m getting better. Like all things in writing it’s about making the reader feel as though he or she were there. I’d talk about who the coaches are for each time; each teams win/loss for the season thus far; starting line up of each team; the scoring per quarter; star players; what strategies were used. Write it in a way so that it is relatable to the reader, try and keep it interesting and keep the story moving. Also, I would suggest looking at sites like ESPN to see how their writers write about the games they’ve reported on. This will give you a great idea of what you can do. Best of luck!

You can’t make stuff up, that is not reporting. Describe some interesting aspect of the game, you were there werent you? Was it a blow out or did they go back and forth. Any technical fouls or heated moments? Are the teams rivals? Who did you quote? The coach would be a good source, also a player and a fan. A cheerleader. What are the two teams records for the year? Did this game mean anything big? Are State Championships in the future for either team. Did you already andswer the who, what, when, why, how, and so what of the game? Why should I care about the game? You have to justify your spot on the newspaper page. Is this a prominent senior’s last game?

    Dig deep man.
