How to install Wordpress? Is it mandatory to have a paid hosting service to host Wordpress. Can I not have a free hosting service to host my Wordpress. Are there any other free (and better) blogging services. Please respond.

You have to have a hosting service to host a Wordpress blog. I doubt that any free hosting service would let you upload and manage the blog files.
Google has a free blogging service, blogger.
You can run Wordpress on your own computer with WAMP or other webservers/etc. Most free hosting services aren’t going to provide the full range of services required for WordPress (or very limited access, such as only one SQL table where about 8 are needed).
Wordpress itself can host your own copy. TypePad is another alternative, which will have the same limitations/requirements.

If you want to install Wordpress, you need to download it from http://www.wordpress.org and upload it via FTP to your host.
I know about a good and free hosting service, you can check it out here:

If you want free hosting, just use wordpress.com
Wordpress will host your blog for you, and you won’t have to install anything.
The other less appealing option would be to host your own server and then install it there. “Free” in the sense that you wouldn’t have to pay a monthly fee, but you would have to maintain your server and make sure it’s always on and your internet connection is good.
Or you can pay for a server and upload the Wordpress software there.

But if you want to have a real Wordpress website with a lot more options and a real domain name like http://www.yoursite.com you have to get paid hosting.
I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/
Powweb has the best offer right now. It’s on a 50% sale – $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them. (like http://www.yoursite.com) Their hosting plan includes easy, one click install of Wordpress (through their control panel). Just choose a theme that you like, and start adding content.
This is a step by step guide on how to install wordpress once you own your own domain and are paying for a server. Wordpress is free to install in your own server.
