Some tips for writing a newspaper article and interviewing others?

I’m joining the schools newspaper next year and I wanted some tips on how I can keep it interesting and still make it sound good. I’ve already taken journalism class so I can write news articles, but we never really went into extreme detail of how to make a good article.

Also, I wanted some tips about interviewing others, since I know that the information from them is very important when you use it in the articles.

Thank you!

Read, read, read. Read your local newspaper, and figure out what makes you want to read more.

Then, write, write, write. It takes a ton of practice to get good at anything, and writing is no exception.

You’ll know the answer to interviewing people as well. Keep doing it, and find out what works for getting people to talk to you. Tip number one – don’t ask yes/no questions. Ask questions that require some explanation. Why did the event happen in such a way? What were you thinking at that point? And so on.

    Good luck.
